Kurzbeschreibung:
More and more games are designed specifically for educational or social purposes, based on the growing number of empirical researches of different disciplines which demonstrate the positive effects of games on achievements and attitudes. Games have already found their way to urban planning, especially to support public participation. Yet, research findings regarding the implementation of games in children and youth participation are still missing. In order to take advan¬tage of potential of games as tools in youth participation processes, age-specific needs, skills and interests of these target groups need to be taken into account in the game design.

The overarching aim of the study is to find new ways for the design of games which can empower youth to be active participants in shaping the urban environment. For this study, a cooperative educational game called ParticiPécs has been developed in a collaborative design process involving youth and young experts. By simulating real-world urban interventions, ParticiPécs motivates players to cooperate in order to achieve a shared goal, and requires coordinated efforts, effective communication and promotive interaction among them. The developed game will be further investigated in an experimental research which focuses on investigating the learning effect of the game.
