Hamburg-Lurup „KiFaZ“
A child and family centre of the Kinderschutzbund (league for the protection of children) became the contact point for parents and children and also the neighbourhood meeting point in a large housing estate. With this it contributes significantly to the social stabilisation and renewal of the urban district.
This project has been put into the archive. The project details will not be updated anymore.
Context

The divided urban district Lurup, which was built for more than 30,000 inhabitants between 1954 and the middle of the 1970s, is located at the western city border of Hamburg (pop. 1.7m) in the Altona area. Due to spatial polarisation and stigmatisation, the urban district has been promoted as part of the Hamburg Urban Renewal Programme since 1998. Since 1999 it has been a model region in the Federal and State Programme “Social City”. In the scope of urban district work, neighbourhood management and mobilisation of the inhabitants, the social urban district development is to be furthered.friseur bonn
Project description

Since many conflicts in the “social problem area of Lurup” were ascribed to problems and difficult life situations in the family, a self-help initiative was founded in 1995, which aimed at providing counselling, help and qualification services for parents, single parents, children and youths. From this self-help initiative, the Kinder- und Familienzentrum (KiFaZ) (Children and Family Centre) in the western area of Lurup emerged. The centre, which has been supported by the Hamburg State Association of the “German League for the Protection of Children” since 1998, has become a contact point for parents and children in the urban district. The employees give advice on questions of every day life, contact with the authorities, with relationship problems and on bringing up children. They offer help in particularly difficult life situations and promote communication and interlinking within the community. “Help for self-help” determines the character of the services.
The KiFaZ runs a café as an open meeting point for the urban district for people from the neighbourhood. The centre provides its rooms and also staff for initiatives and is also active in urban district work. Together with the visitors, the upgrading of the adjacent place was planned and carried out, and a mother-child group that is especially committed to improving playgrounds was supported. Individual working groups of the “Stadtteilparlament” (Urban District Parliament) Lurup Forum are organised by the KiFaZ coordinator and the centre is involved in carrying out urban district festivals.
Computer, health, sewing and cooking courses take place in the rooms of the KiFaZ. Pregnancy and baby groups, school children’s meeting groups or an international women’s group also meet there. In collaboration with different organisations, mother-child gymnastics, theatre, music and play afternoons, courses for girls (video, computer, cooking) are also offered, to name but a few.
The “Lurup Family Services Station” in the east part of Lurup was founded in collaboration with the KiFaZ in 2001. The association “Berufliche Autonomie für Frauen e.V.” (Professional Autonomy for Women) developed the concept and created six jobs for women who used to receive supplementary benefits. They offer services (writing service, household help, visiting service, childcare) and consulting and education services for the neighbourhood. The Family Services Station cooperates with the KiFaZ.
