Münster „münster.mobil“
Due to the large number of commuters, the City of Münster - in cooperation with the city utilities Stadtwerke Münster GmbH - set up mobile stations at different train stops and arterial roads. These go beyond typical 'Park and Ride' systems and make the transfer to environmentally-friendly means of transport easier.
Context
Source: Oliver Niermann, BBR
With its solitary location in Münsterland, the City of Münster is confronted with large numbers of commuters every day.
With the help of mobile stations, it should be made easier for commuters to transfer to public, environmentally-friendly means of transport, since the inner-city parking facilities are already heavily used.
Project description
Source: Oliver Niermann, BBR
In various locations in the city (suburb train stations, arterial roads), mobile stations have been installed as part of an extensive mobile system to make it easier for commuters to transfer to networked environmentally-friendly transport (trains, buses, bicycles, footways). At selected train stations, link points for this were created connecting to the very well-developed public transport system, weather-resistant bicycle boxes and cages were installed and free parking provided. The use of the bicycle stations is free and is being successively extended.

- Intensified advertising and PR for the environmental association (mobil.image)
Innovations

The mobile stations go beyond typical 'Park and Ride' systems, since they link several means of transport. The entire programme has a strong ecological intention and actively tries to spread the traffic flow in the city across different transport means.
