World Urban Forum 10

World Urban Forum 2022 Katowice, Poland

The world’s leading conference on sustainable urban development will take place in Katowice, Poland between 26-30 June 2022.

What kind of cities are needed to support the future of humanity? How do we envisage and reimagine the future of cities? What do we want our cities to look like? These are some of the questions that will be deliberated upon at the eleventh World Urban Forum (WUF11) to be held in June 2022 in Katowice, Poland.

Established in 2001 and convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), WUF has been a reliable platform to discuss matters around rapid urbanization and its range of impacts. The tenth edition of the WUF – with the theme “Cities of opportunity - combining culture and innovation” - took place in February 2020 at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It hosted over 13,000 participants from 169 countries.

Under the theme “Transforming our Cities for a Better Urban Future”, WUF11 aims to shift its focus towards the future prospects in sustainable urbanization. Co-organised by Poland’s Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, and the Municipal Office of Katowice in addition to UN-Habitat, this is the first time the prestigious event is taking place in Eastern Europe. Katowice has been host to numerous other international events in the recent times, namely the UN Climate Change Conference (COP24) in 2018, and the upcoming Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in December 2021.

The Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) will contribute, amongst others within the framework of the New Leipzig Charter and the German National Urban Development Policy.
